Message:
Parmatma, the Creator, is known by many names. We all remember the one and all pervading Creator in different ways. No words can describe the excellence of the Creator; the Creator cares for and is the true support of all who remove their ego and seek refuge.
Dhroo Bhagat was born a prince, his mother born a princess and made queen through marriage to a King. However, in early childhood, Dhroo Bhagat’s stepmother had Dhroo and his mother banished from the castle. They lived in poverty. His mother guided him to turn his focus, his love and attention towards God. As Dhroo grew older his devotion towards God gave him stability and peace. One day, whilst playing, Dhroo entered his father’s castle and into his chamber. His stepmother slapped him and asked him to leave; his father, the King, stood watching. This hurt but awakened Dhroo to the reality that no one else but Parmatma was his source of real support. He set out into the jungle to meditate and enhance his spiritual connection with Parmatma. When the King got word of this he set out to find his son as he felt the jungle was not a place for a young boy. Upon meeting his son, the King discussed sharing his wealth and kingdom with Dhroo.
When the King asked Dhroo to come back and take his share of the kingdom, a sudden realisation hit Dhroo: he had only set out and was yet to start his journey towards Parmatma, but already his father had taken such a drastic turn. He remembered his father watching him being removed from his kingdom and now willing to share everything he owned with him. Dhroo declined the King’s offer and remained on his path towards Parmatma as he realised that the Creator is the only truth and the only salvation.
Many before us like Dhroo Bhagat, Ajaamal, Baalmeek, Badhik, Bhagat Prahlaad, and Bidur have been saved by the Creator’s grace, because they remembered Parmatma with devotion, pure intent and love.
Just as Hazrat Abdul Kadir Gilani Ji blessed a mother with eleven sons, the Creator blesses us with uncountable gifts for which we should be thankful. These gifts are at the discretion of the Creator and should be no reason for pride and ego. Hazrat Abdul Kadir Gilani Ji when blessing the mother, asked her to always keep Parmatma’s love in her heart, give back to those in need on Giarveen, and not let her ego hurt others. However, when it came time to the marriage of her elder son, in her happiness and pride, she forgot the teachings of Hazrat Abdul Kadir Gilani Ji and turned away a poor beggar from her door with harsh words. When the ship carrying her sons sank she remembered how her devotion had led her to closeness with Parmatma and Hazrat Abdul Kadir Gilani Ji’s blessings and then how her ignorance, ego and hatred towards others had turned her away from Parmatma and caused her to lose those blessings.
Reflection:
We must be humble as our understanding and intelligence can not grasp the vastness and brilliance of Parmatma. What can we tell of our past and present faults? We are stuck in our attachment to worldly things and because of those false emotional attachments we engage in wrongdoing, but we can ask to be redeemed.
We must ask Parmatma, with complete devotion and pure intent, to take us into protective care, carry us and help us reach inner purity.
As we strengthen our devotion and become humble we nurture closeness with the Creator, but our ego and hatred towards others does not allow our spiritual journey to progress; it pulls us backwards. We can not set out on this journey merely for the purpose of seeking blessings for materialistic things. Our spiritual journey must encourage us to remove our ego and other vices to create inner purity.
