Message:
We must not make promises with others and especially our Guru and/or Paramatma that we cannot keep. We must make every effort to remain genuine and not allow our ego to put those efforts to vain. Paramatma cannot be won over with words or false promises. Only via our actions and sincere, pure love, that reflects our efforts to change ourselves for the better, can we attain the blessings of Paramatma. Those that reflect on their own thoughts and actions to see their deficiencies are blessed. Let us pray to Paramatma for renewed strength in the new year and for victory over ego.
Reflection:
Arjun felt that he had nurtured a closeness to Bhagwan Krishna and felt quite proud of this relationship. It became apparent through Arjun’s actions and words that he was slowly developing a pride that was turning into ego. Bhagwan Krishna did not want his humble devotee to turn into an egoistic human being. Therefore, Bhagwan helped Arjun realize that one can only attain the stature of a devotee if Paramatma so chooses. We too should not think of our achievements as our own; rather we should be grateful to Paramatma for all the blessings that have made it so.
