Message:
In the month of Poh, the cold of the weather and chill of our past karmas does not touch those, whose hearts are claimed by the love of Paramatma, the lord of the Universe. The mind’s eye is entrenched and affixed on the vision of Paramatma. With every breath only the desire to be one with Paramatma is cultivated. The soul seeks refuge under the protection of Paramatma and benefits from Paramatma’s service and attachment. The mind cannot be corrupted and engulfed by Illusions, when one joins the company of Holy Saints and sings the praises of Paramatma. When one is absorbed in the love of Paramatma, Paramatma is able to permeate in one’s soul. The soul which originated from Parmatma is able to be one with Paramatma again. The Supreme Lord, Creator, grasps one’s hand and one never suffers from separation again. Paramatma is unapproachable and unfathomable. For those who are sacrificed and devoted in Paramatma’s love, the month of Poh is beautiful, and filled with all comforts.
Reflection:
During a journey to bring Dushalas (shawls) for Guru Hargobind Ji, Bhai Bidichand Ji reached a bhatthi (Brick Kiln) and asked the bhatthi keeper to offer him a place to hide from soldiers who were looking for him. The keeper said that the bhatti was the only space that he could offer. The bhatti was hot and unsafe. But Bhai Bidichand Ji’s faith in Guru Ji was unwavering. With Guru Ji’s guidance and support he knew that Paramatma who could protect one from the anguish and internal fires of bad karmas, could of course protect him from the heat of the bhatthi. He felt that only his Guru could offer him the true protection that he needed at that time and with that faith he stepped inside. As Bhai Bidichand Ji sat in the bhatthi doing simran and connecting with his Guru, Guru Hargibind Ji asked their sevadars to pour cold water on them. As the sevadars poured the water, Bhai Bidichand Ji could feel the cool blessings of Guru Ji and the heat of the bhatthi dispersed. When the soldiers arrived at the bhatthi and the keeper advised them that Bhai Bidichand Ji was in fact in the bhatthi, they left assuming that there was no way that anyone could survive the heat of the bhatti.
For this and countless other accounts of devotion, Bhai Bidichand Ji has been given the title of “Guru Ka Seena”, meaning Guru’s heart. We too should cultivate a closeness with our Guru, show steady and everlasting faith and commitment. In this way we too can obtain grace and honor.
